The latest news from the Vatican
Provided by AGPThe Vatican confirmed on Wednesday that the visit will begin on June 6 and include stops in Madrid, Barcelona, and the Canary Islands, as reported by a media outlet. The trip forms part of a broader program combining religious, political, and civic engagements.
In Madrid, the pope will be officially received by King Felipe VI at the Royal Palace. The schedule is expected to include 12 speeches, four masses, and roughly 10 meetings with political, religious, and civil society figures.
On June 8, the pontiff is set to meet Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez before delivering his address to lawmakers at the lower chamber of Spain’s parliament, the Congress of Deputies.
The Vatican highlighted the historic nature of the event, noting that it will be the first time a pope has spoken before the Spanish legislative body, marking a significant moment in relations between the Holy See and Spain.
